Dr. Michael D. Carter graduated from Creighton University, in Omaha, Nebraska with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He then attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts where he received his D.M.D. (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) in 1987. While in dental school Dr. Carter became a Registered Pharmacist and worked part-time as a pharmacist in a local hospital.
Dr. Carter then moved to San Diego and entered the Navy as a Lieutenant in the Navy Dental Corps. Dr. Carter was attached to the United States Marine Corps as a dentist for his six years in the military. He served in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf and was honorably discharged with numerous letters of accommodation and citations as a Lieutenant Commander. While in the Navy Dr. Carter enhanced his education and became a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Carter then went back to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where he received his endodontic certificate in 1994. Dr. Carter has been in private practice in San Diego since then. He is an member of several organizations; American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, California Dental Association and San Diego County Dental Society. Dr. Carter has been active in the dental community; Past President of the Paul Revere Study Club, past Chairman of the Continuing Education Committee for the San Diego County Dental Society, and currently serves on the Peer Review Committee for the San Diego County Dental Society.
Dr. Carter enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He loves hearing about his son's experience on the University of Notre Dame Men's Lacrosse team and his daughter's excursions as an Outdoor Adventure leader at Boston College. In San Diego he enjoys hiking along the coast with his family. While at home everyone enjoys the company of his friendly golden retriever Marley.
